Father and Son: First Meeting

After struggling to conceive a child, Francis looks on at his new son with a mixture of pride and sadness.

'Tears welled in Francis' eyes as he stared down at the fragile-looking babe. After having such trouble, they'd finally been granted a child. He almost couldn't believe it as he watched his son wriggle about in his new gown. Judging by his wide-eyed stare, he thought that maybe his son viewed it more as a hindrance rather then anything of a welcome sort.

A sigh escaped him. Was any of this real? Perhaps the gods or whatever deity it was or maybe even fate itself had chosen to play a cruel prank on the both of them. He and Camilla, society had been so against their conceiving. He was beginning to think that was the reason for all of it. All the jeers and whispers behind their backs, some even dared whisper that he wife be a witch. The stress had gotten to her, causing at least two miscarriages, the second she nearly died from.

The third time around they were both uneasy, claiming if it wasn't meant to be this time, then they would remain childless, at least biologically. Adoption was always a choice.

But now the boy was here. Born a little early yes, but relatively healthy the doctor had said. As Francis felt his son's hand brush his own, a shaky voice left him.

"Dante my son....I waited for you...."
