Dante School Days

Yay! Finally another book scene. I haven't posted one in a while. Ok, I'm not sure if this happens with all kids but I've heard some develop a kind of 'crush' on their teachers at a young age. This usually never develops past the initial infatuation stage, and the kids eventually get over it. Well, that's the situation here. At a young age (probably eight or nine) Dante started to get strange butterflies in his stomach around his new professor. Being so young he had no idea what these feelings were, all he knew was he felt great around his new teacher and loved going to school. This new teacher was strict but not overly cruel, and hardly had a bad word to say about Dante, given he was prompt, always efficient with his work, and never talked back. Some other students didn't like him, but for Dante it was the opposite. His mother having remarried to an abusive man, (after Dante's father's death at age 3. She didn't remarry until he was around 7. )  Dante hardly had much love/attention at home, so when his teacher praised him, it felt nice. He never spoke of his crush out of fear and knowing the teacher would be fired if any rumors got started. Dante didn't realize it until years later he'd had feelings for the older man.
