Brothers -Jealousy-

Description

-a broken mess, just scattered pieces of who I am-

A theme of jealousy I've been wanting to explore, mainly on Ragnar's side. (Dio & Ragnar are the twins of Loki and Poseidon. Ragnar's black hair comes from uncle Zeus lol. thewomaninred.deviantart.com/a…

Being born feeble and disabled, he has a rather strong case of CP) Ragnar has always felt a little....out of place with the rest of his family. Unable to really walk or talk, he's resigned to mainly keeping to himself, usually reading or sleeping in his free time. He can 'talk' in a sense, but only through a mental connection with his twin. Dio ends up having to speak for him, which in his later years, ends up driving Ragnar mad. As the years progress he grows more and more frustrated with the situation, angry at himself for not being what he thinks is 'normal', angry for not being the son he feels his mother wanted him to be. He ends up feeling the gods somehow tricked him and his twin, they were meant to be whole but were split in half, one side being strong and the other weak.

While Ragnar IS extremely powerful with magic, sometimes he feels like if it were possible, he would give it all up just to have a normal body like his twin...

-The room was hot and stuffy, one of the things that came with being the middle of summer. The heat was always sweltering now, making his throat tighten up and sweat seem to pour out of him constantly. He hated it. To make things worse he was stuck inside...with a cold. It wasn't like he wanted to be outside in the blistering heat, but the muffled cries of his twin were enough to begin irking him. How he wished he would stay quiet! It made reading almost impossible!

The noise not letting up, he pushed the book away with a heavy sigh, trying to force his tight hand to relax. It hardly did as he wanted when he was frustrated, like now. Having nothing else to do he glanced outside the window bored, sniffling. The trashcan was packed with snotty tissue. Mom or dad would dump it later. Instead his attention focused on the rambunctious boy outside, chasing what looked to be the wind...or maybe butterflies. As he watched, his eyes drifted down to his legs, how swiftly they moved, so effortless and graceful. His face suddenly grew hot, not with sickness but rage. He felt he would shatter the window if he kept looking outside so he glanced away, trying not to look at his own weakened body, how unnatural the limbs looked.

It wasn't fair, why couldn't HE be out there running around, too?? He never even FELT what running was like, always having to be either lugged around or carried in a cart.

He hadn't noticed but he was biting his lip so hard he nearly tasted blood. His lips slide from between his teeth wetly when the bedroom doorknob twisted suddenly. Loki peeked his head inside, seemingly unaware of his son's inner turmoil.

Ragnar quickly sat up, giving his best fake smile. It seemed to fool his mom as he stepped inside.

"Hello love, are you feeling better?" he asked, giving a sweeping inspection of his forehead. Still a little warm. His lips looked raw, too. He would bring some balm for them along with some warm tea.

Ragnar gave his best indication of yes, knowing Loki would hear what he wanted to hear anyway as he kissed him gently, smiling.

"That's good, I'll be back to read to you in a minute, I see the trahcan needs emptying right now...." -

That was powerful!  I could really get a sense for the frustration and jealous Ragnar is experiencing.  It's never easy to have disabilities; at times I admit I get jealous that the rest of my family can drive and that some of my friends who don't have disabilities can drive too.
